UH-Hilo junior Braeden Campbell left a good taste in his mouth, carding an 1-over 72 on Sunday as the Vulcans wrapped up the fall portion of their schedule at Kaanapali Collegiate Classic on Maui.

The Vulcans finished last and behind 22 Division I teams at 56-over 908. Clemson edged Georgia by a shot to win the team title, turning in an 826.

Freshman Taylor Patrick carded the best three-round total for UH-Hilo, closing with a 73 to finish at 8-over 221 and in a tie for 78th.

Jared Kinoshita (77) finished at 228, Campbell was another two shots back and Jeffrey Yamaguchi (234) and Trevor Kua (239) also contributed to the Vulcans’ team score.

Edward Abellar (238) and Kamehameha-Hawaii graduate Preston-Lee Ching (245) golfed as individuals for the Vulcans.

Waiakea graduate Trevor Hirata also left a good taste is his mouth. The UH-Manoa freshman and three-time BIIF champion closed with a 73 to come in at 18-over.

The Rainbow Warriors finished in a tie for 19th.

Hawaii’s top finishers were senior Skye Inakoshi (75) and sophomore Cameron Kaneko (70), who tied for 50th place at 4-over 217.

Doc Redman of Clemson closed with a 64 and won medalist honors at 15-under, two strokes ahead of LSU’s Sam Burns, who fired a sizzling 9-under 62 in the final round.

Rounding out the top five were No. 13 LSU (828), No. 7 Oklahoma (834), and No. 39 South Carolina (840).

The next tournament for the Vulcans and Rainbow Warriors is the Amer Ari Intercollegiate at Waikoloa in early February.
